The People of 1381 project team were extremely saddened to learn of the passing of Helen Snelson. Helen was a passionate history teacher who was Curriculum Area Leader for the Secondary History PGCE course in the Department of Education of the University of York. Helen was very active in the Historical Association where she served as Chair of the Secondary Committee and Deputy President. An appreciation of Helen by the Historical Association is available here.

Professor Adrian Bell, Principal Investigator of the People of 1381, writes:

“We worked with Helen and the Historical Association during the project, as we planned and then ran a Teacher Fellowship programme to support our hopes for impact - especially around Education.  For all who knew Helen it will be no surprise that this work was one of the highlights of the project.  The way she led the planning and delivery - the space she provided for the Fellows and Team member to interact - made for lasting memories and indeed research-informed teaching materials.  We were all blown away by the progress we made, and this was all down to Helen, her personality, amazing charisma and historical knowledge.

Rest in peace Helen - you were truly a unique and gifted historian and educator”.
